The P 10p shows a traditional pillar box on a street of houses, with a large letter P on the left. It is one of the 2018 A to Z coins people hunt for in their change. It is one of the 26 A to Z 10p coins and one of the 31 10p designs struck since 1968.

Rarity: Very rareDate and condition decide what a P 10p is worth. A 2019 postbox coin is the one to look for, as its circulation run was well under half the 2018's, and it usually sells for more. The fine lines of the street, the houses and the plate on the box are soon rubbed away in change, so a sharp coin sells for more than a worn one. Coins from Royal Mint cards and pouches sell for about the same as a sharp one from change.
P 10p mintage and rarity
With 304,000 struck for circulation, the P 10p (Postbox) is the joint sixth rarest of the 30 ranked 10p designs and has the joint eighth lowest mintage of all 194 circulating UK designs. That puts it in the Very rare band, for mintages under 500,000.
The next rarer 10p is the Q 10p (Queuing), with 303,000 struck, and the next more common is the Capercaillie 10p, with 7,100,000 struck.
Its lowest circulation mintage was in 2019, with 84,000 struck.

How to spot a P 10p
The postbox 10p shows a pillar box standing on a pavement, with houses and chimneys behind it and a large P to its left. The box has a posting slot and a collection plate on its front. The value and date are absent from the street scene side. Turn the coin over to find TEN PENCE and 2018 or 2019 around the Queen's portrait; the street scene is identical on both, and the coin is a standard 10p in every other way.
P 10p design
P is for the postbox in the Royal Mint's Great British Coin Hunt, the 2018 run of 26 letter 10ps, and the verse pictures bold red boxes marking out the route ahead. Pillar boxes were introduced in the early 1850s, not long after the Penny Black stamp, and were first standardised in green before red was chosen in the 1870s. When the London 2012 Olympics ended, champions who had won gold saw postboxes in their home towns repainted gold in their honour. The coin sets a tall cylindrical pillar box on the right of a street scene, with its round cap, posting slot, collection plate and a monogram on the door. Houses with chimneys and a street lamp stand behind, and paving slabs lead up to the box. The letter P, tall and textured, fills the left side. The Royal Mint credits the postbox design to The Royal Mint Team.
It was one of the 26 coins in the A to Z set issued in 2018.

P 10p questions
How often does the postbox 10p turn up in change?
Not often. The P design was struck for circulation only in 2018 and 2019, in short runs, and the 2019 coin had the smaller run by some distance.
Is it the Postbox 10p or the Post Box 10p?
They are two spellings for one coin. The Royal Mint used Postbox for the 2018 silver proof and Post Box for the 2019 uncirculated coin, and the pillar box design is the same on each.
