200 years of ZSL £2 (2026)

The ZSL £2 was made for collectors, and The Royal Mint has published no circulation figure for it. Coins on the market come from the 2026 annual set, the Royal Mint pack and retailers' capsules, with proofs sold alongside. An unopened Royal Mint pack sells ahead of a loose coin. On a loose coin, check the tiger's head and the fine grid of the globe for rubbing and scratches. Proofs are valued separately from brilliant uncirculated coins.

The 200 years of ZSL £2 was not issued for circulation, so it has no rarity rank.

The ZSL £2 shows three animals over a globe drawn as a grid of lines: a tiger's head at the upper right, a bird at the left and a snail at the bottom. The yellow outer ring reads ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF LONDON between the founding year and 2026, with dots separating the words from the dates. The edge reads RESTORING WILDLIFE TOGETHER, and the obverse shows King Charles III. Its animals sit over the globe in the centre, which tells it apart from the HMS Beagle £2 coin of the same year, whose animals form a border around the ring.

The Zoological Society of London began in Regent's Park and has grown over two centuries into an international conservation charity, pairing scientific research with the work of its teams in the field to protect and restore wildlife around the world. For its 200th anniversary in 2026, The Royal Mint honoured ZSL on an official UK coin for the first time. The coin was created in collaboration with the society, a share of the net proceeds from its sale goes to the charity, and it first appeared in the 2026 annual coin set. Jonathan Olliffe, whose earlier coins include the 2012 Olympic handover £2 and the Aquatics and Gymnastics 50p designs, picked three animals that tell the story of ZSL's conservation work. A Sumatran tiger's head fills the upper right, a Socorro dove sits at the left and a Partula snail at the bottom. All three are set over a globe drawn as a grid of lines, a reminder of how far the society's work reaches. The outer ring carries the founding year, ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF LONDON and 2026, and the edge reads RESTORING WILDLIFE TOGETHER.
