200 Years of the RNLI 50p (2024)
The RNLI 50p of 2024 celebrates the bicentenary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution with the charity's flag inside a life ring. It first appeared in the 2024 annual coin sets before being sold on its own, and it was never issued for circulation. It is one of the 172 50p designs struck since 1969.

The RNLI 50p was sold only to collectors, so its price depends on the packaging and the state of the coin. How to spot a 200 Years of the RNLI 50p
A flag bearing a crown, an anchor and the letters RN and LI, set inside a round life ring bound with rope, makes the RNLI 50p easy to pick out. The anniversary wording curves around the top of the ring and the two dates around the bottom, with the initials JB for John Bergdahl at the right. The other side carries the King's portrait. The colour edition adds printed colour to the design, while the standard coin is plain metal. None of the versions were made for circulation.

200 Years of the RNLI 50p design
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution had its origins two centuries ago at the City of London Tavern, and it has run as a charity ever since, relying on donations and volunteer crews to save lives at sea and on lakes and rivers. For its bicentenary The Royal Mint worked with the charity on this 50p. Coin designer John Bergdahl built the reverse from the RNLI's own symbols. The charity's flag sits in the centre, its cross carrying a crown and an anchor with the letters RN over LI in the quarters, and a life ring bound with rope circles it. The anniversary wording curves around the top of the ring and the founding year and 2024 around the bottom, with Bergdahl's initials JB at the right. The coin was first struck for the 2024 annual coin sets and then released singly. A colour edition went on sale from February 2024, alongside silver, silver piedfort and gold proofs. The King appears on the obverse in Martin Jennings' portrait.
