50 Years of The King's Trust 50p design
In 1976 the then Prince of Wales used his severance pay from the Royal Navy to fund community projects for young people, and those projects grew into The Prince's Trust. The charity helps young people who are out of work or struggling at school to build confidence and skills, find a job or start a business, and in 2024 it took the name The King's Trust. Its fiftieth anniversary is marked on this 50p, designed by Jessica Gregorio, a graphic designer who was herself supported by the Trust. Her reverse places the charity's logo at the top, above figures of young people taking part in all kinds of activities. A flowing stream nods to the Trust's Royal Navy beginnings, a sun stands for optimism and the light the Trust brings, and clouds suggest young people's dreams and ambitions. The lettering reads THE KING'S TRUST, then 50 YEARS WORKING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE across the centre and below, with Gregorio's initials JG. The coin was issued only in the 2026 annual brilliant uncirculated and proof sets. King Charles III, by Martin Jennings, is on the obverse, so the founder appears on the coin celebrating his own charity.
