Owl 50p (2021)
Owl got a 50p of his own in 2021 as the fifth design of the Winnie the Pooh and Friends series. It shows Owl with his feather quill and was made for collectors rather than for change. It is one of the 12 Winnie the Pooh 50p coins and one of the 172 50p designs struck since 1969.

Owl was never a circulation coin, so every example is brilliant uncirculated or better and the price turns on presentation. Coins sealed in the Royal Mint's own wallet are the minority, as most were sold in distributor cards and sets. Marks across Owl's feathers and the quill reduce the appeal of a loose coin, and the colour, silver proof and gold proof versions are priced on their own.

How to spot an Owl 50p
Owl stands alone on this coin, gripping his quill beside a written letter, and his name appears on the left-hand side. No other coin of the 2020 to 2022 series puts its lettering there, which makes the Owl 50p one of the easiest to pick out. The heads side shows Queen Elizabeth II with the date 2021. It was not issued into circulation, so every genuine example came from a pack, a card or a capsule.

Owl 50p design
Owl likes to present himself as the clever one of the Hundred Acre Wood. The other animals go to him for advice, though his spelling often lets him down, and he even writes his own name as Wol. The Royal Mint released his coin on 4 October 2021, the second of that year's three designs and the fifth in the Winnie the Pooh and Friends series. Royal Mint designer Daniel Thorne, working with The Walt Disney Company, adapted one of E. H. Shepard's original drawings, in which Owl holds his feather quill, busy writing a message. His name is lettered by hand to his left, below the series bee on its dotted flight path, with the ©Disney credit in small type at the lower right. Jody Clark's fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II sits on the obverse. As with the earlier coins, the Royal Mint's own brilliant uncirculated pack was a fold-out wallet, this time with pages about Owl.
It was one of the three coins in the Winnie the Pooh set issued in 2021.
