The Star Wars Death Star II 50p is the 2024 coin showing the Empire's battle station looming in space. It was the last of the four coins in the Royal Mint's Star Wars vehicles collection and was sold only to collectors. It is one of the eight Star Wars 50p coins and one of the 172 50p designs struck since 1969.

The battle station itself is the picture: the Death Star II, the only vehicle coin that shows a station rather than a fighter or freighter. Tilting the coin brings up the Empire's insignia and then the station's outline. The 2023 Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine coin also has a Death Star in its tilting panel, but its main image is the two villains. Check the heads side for the 2024 date and the King's portrait.

Star Wars Death Star II 50p design
The Death Star II brought The Royal Mint's 2024 Star Wars vehicles collection to a close, after the Millennium Falcon, the TIE Fighter and the X-Wing. It is the only one of the four subjects that is a battle station rather than a ship, and the coin shows the Empire's station looming in open space. Lucasfilm Ltd. is credited with the design, and the STAR WARS logo sits in two lines below, with the small © & ™ Lucasfilm Ltd. credit. When the coin is tilted, the lenticular feature shows the Galactic Empire insignia and then the Death Star II drawn in outline. Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III is on the obverse. The design was issued as a brilliant uncirculated coin and in a limited colour presentation, with silver and gold proof versions. A Death Star icon had already appeared a year earlier, in the lenticular panel of the Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine coin.
It was one of the five coins in the Star Wars set issued in 2024.
