Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p (2024)

The Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p is the fourth and last of the Star Wars character duos 50ps, and the only one dated 2024. It shows the Millennium Falcon's captain and his co-pilot and was sold only to collectors. It is one of the eight Star Wars 50p coins and one of the 172 50p designs struck since 1969.

Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p value

Uncirculated
typical £11, range £9 to £15

Worked out from 5 published prices (3 dealer prices, 1 price guide and 1 sold-price report), each condition from its own prices, checked in September 2026.

Not issued for circulation

As a collector-only issue, the Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p has no circulated examples, and the market is for brilliant uncirculated coins. Those still sealed in their Royal Mint packaging draw higher prices than loose ones, and scratches on the lenticular window lower the value. Its colour version and precious metal proofs are valued on their own.

How to spot a Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p

Han Solo with Chewbacca at his side is the giveaway, and the heads side is dated 2024, not 2023 like the other duos coins. Do not confuse it with the 2024 Millennium Falcon 50p, which shows the ship itself as the main image with no characters. It was not issued for circulation.

Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p design

The Royal Mint's four Star Wars character duos coins were made to mark four decades since Return of the Jedi reached cinemas in 1983, and Han Solo and Chewbacca closed the collection. Unlike the three coins before it, this one carries a 2024 date, so the complete set spans two years. Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, appears with his friend and co-pilot Chewbacca, a partnership that ran from the moment both characters debuted in 1977. Lucasfilm Ltd. receives the design credit, and STAR WARS runs below the figures with the small Lucasfilm copyright line. Above them sits a lenticular panel that changes image as the coin is tilted. King Charles III appears on the obverse in Martin Jennings' portrait. Alongside the brilliant uncirculated coin, The Royal Mint sold a limited colour version and silver and gold proofs. The Falcon then went on to lead the Royal Mint's next Star Wars series, the vehicles collection.

It was one of the five coins in the Star Wars set issued in 2024.

Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p questions

Why is the Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p dated 2024?

It was the last of the four duos coins and came out in 2024, while the other three carry 2023. That makes the collection dual-dated.

Was the Han Solo and Chewbacca 50p released into circulation?

No. It was made only as a collector coin, in brilliant uncirculated finish and in limited colour and precious metal editions.
