Star Wars X-Wing 50p (2024)

No X-Wing 50p was struck for circulation, so the market is made up of brilliant uncirculated coins and their collector variants. Sealed Royal Mint packs and certified cards bring more than coins that have been taken out, since any rubbing or fingermarks on a loose coin count against it. The limited colour edition trades at its own level, as do the proof editions in silver and gold.

The Star Wars X-Wing 50p was not issued for circulation, so it has no rarity rank.

The wings are the clue: the X-Wing flies with its S-foils opened into an X. It is the only Rebel starfighter among the vehicle coins, and its tilting panel shows the Starbird with a silhouette of the ship. The Millennium Falcon coin also uses the Starbird, so check the shape of the craft; the TIE Fighter and Death Star II coins carry the Empire insignia instead. It is a collector coin dated 2024 and was not put into circulation.

The X-Wing, the Rebel Alliance's main dogfighter, was the third of the four craft The Royal Mint chose for its 2024 Star Wars vehicles collection. The coin shows a film-accurate X-Wing in flight with its S-foils open, so that the wings form a saltire across the design. Lucasfilm Ltd. is credited with the reverse, and the STAR WARS logo sits below in two lines, together with the small Lucasfilm copyright credit. The lenticular panel belongs to the Rebel side: tilted, it shows the Starbird of the Rebel Alliance and then the X-Wing in silhouette. The obverse has Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III. The X-Wing followed the Millennium Falcon and the TIE Fighter and came before the Death Star II, which closed the collection. A limited colour edition was sold next to the standard brilliant uncirculated coin, and silver and gold proofs completed the range.
