The Snowman 50p (2025)

The 2025 Snowman 50p is a recent collector-only issue, so nearly every example is still in brilliant uncirculated condition and prices follow presentation. A coin still sealed in its Royal Mint packaging sells for more than a loose or capsuled one with handling marks. The colour edition, sold in a limited presentation and in an advent calendar, and the silver and gold proofs each carry their own prices.

The Snowman 50p was not issued for circulation, so it has no rarity rank.

Look for two figures at a Christmas tree: the Snowman and James decorating it with fairy lights. The 2024 coin also has a tree but shows the Snowman alone with a star, so the boy settles it. The King's portrait and the date 2025 are on the other side. The colour edition carries the scene in printed colour, while the ordinary coin shows bare metal.

The eighth Snowman 50p brings James back after his absence from the 2024 design. Robin Shaw drew the boy and the Snowman decorating a Christmas tree together with fairy lights, which makes this the second tree scene in a row but the first to show the two friends sharing the job. Shaw, assistant director of the 2012 film The Snowman and The Snowdog, has drawn every coin in the series since 2020. The coin was released on 14 October 2025 with the King's portrait by Martin Jennings on the obverse, ringed by CHARLES III, 50 PENCE and 2025, making it the third Snowman 50p of the new reign. Next to the standard brilliant uncirculated coin, a colour edition was sold in a limited presentation and in an advent calendar with a smaller limit of its own, and the design was also struck as silver and gold proofs.
