The Patronus 50p of 2025 shows Harry casting the Patronus Charm from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with the spell EXPECTO PATRONUM on the reverse. It is the fourth and final coin of the Harry Potter iconic moments series. It is one of the eight Harry Potter 50p coins and one of the 172 50p designs struck since 1969.

The Patronus 50p has only ever been sold to collectors, so there are no worn circulation pieces and condition and packaging decide its price. A coin in the untouched Royal Mint pack is worth more than one moved into a capsule. Carbon spots, scratches and a scuffed card all pull the value down. The colour edition, sold with an issue limit, is priced on its own, and the silver and gold proofs trade separately again.

How to spot a Harry Potter The Patronus 50p
The spell gives it away: EXPECTO PATRONUM appears on the reverse with the figure of Harry casting the charm. Check for the small © WBEI mark too. There is no broomstick, lake or car, which rules out the other iconic moments coins. The heads side shows King Charles III. A colour edition with an issue limit was sold alongside the plain brilliant uncirculated coin, and it was not struck for circulation.

Harry Potter The Patronus 50p design
The Patronus Charm is the defensive spell Harry learns in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to drive off Dementors, and the coin shows the moment he first casts it. The Royal Mint used the scene to finish its iconic moments collection, which began with the Winged Keys and the Black Lake in 2024 and continued with the Flying Car earlier in 2025. The reverse shows a frightened Harry producing the charm, with the words of the spell, EXPECTO PATRONUM, and a small © WBEI credit for Warner Bros. Bella Biggs, a product designer at The Royal Mint, remastered a stylised illustration for the design, made in partnership with Warner Bros. Like the other scenes, it pairs with Martin Jennings's portrait of King Charles III, so the four iconic moments coins all carry the King. It was the eighth Harry Potter coin The Royal Mint had struck as a UK 50p.
In the Harry Potter set it was issued in 2025 together with the Harry Potter The Flying Car 50p.
