Peter Rabbit 50p (2019)

With no circulation strikes, every 2019 Peter Rabbit 50p began as a brilliant uncirculated coin, so value depends on how well it has been kept, and marks from handling bring it down. Far fewer were made than of any circulating Peter Rabbit year, which keeps demand firm among people completing his run of 50ps. The coloured silver and gold versions are separate products with prices of their own.

The Peter Rabbit 50p was not issued for circulation, so it has no rarity rank.

This coin will not normally turn up in change, because it was sold only in packs and tubes; a loose one has been taken out of its packaging. To identify it, check for a front-facing Peter in his jacket, the name PETER RABBIT and a TM mark, then look at the heads side for 2019. The 2018 coin uses the same lettering but shows him eating, and the 2020 coin shows him under a fence.

For 2019, The Royal Mint's Beatrix Potter collection included just one cupro-nickel coin, this Peter Rabbit, and it never went into general circulation. The coin was sold in brilliant uncirculated packs and supplied to the trade in tubes, while coloured silver and gold versions were made for collectors. Emma Noble, who had drawn every coin in the series since 2016, shows Peter facing the viewer in his familiar jacket, taken from Potter's illustration, encircled by the name PETER RABBIT, with a small TM mark. The obverse pairs the 2019 date with Jody Clark's effigy of the Queen. This is the fourth of the five Peter Rabbit 50ps and the first of them held back from circulation, and it was followed in 2020 by a final design showing him wriggling under Mr McGregor's fence.

In the Beatrix Potter set it followed The Tailor of Gloucester 50p of 2018 and came before the Peter Rabbit 50p of 2020.
