Peter Rabbit 50p (2020)

As the last Peter Rabbit 50p, and one that never circulated, this coin is wanted by anyone completing his five designs, and in uncirculated condition it is priced above the earlier Peter Rabbit years. Condition here is about preservation rather than wear: an untouched coin in its original pack is preferred, and handling marks reduce value. The silver and gold editions are priced on their own.

The Peter Rabbit 50p was not issued for circulation, so it has no rarity rank.

The fence is the clue: no other Peter Rabbit 50p has him crawling under Mr McGregor's fence, with PETER RABBIT and a small TM mark on the same side. The date 2020 is on the heads side. It was never put into circulation, so any example you come across started out in a pack or trade packaging. The design has no recorded varieties.

The Royal Mint closed its run of Peter Rabbit 50ps in 2020 with this design, the fifth and final one, and it was the only Beatrix Potter coin released that year. Emma Noble based it on Potter's original illustration of Peter, in his jacket, scrambling under the fence of Mr McGregor's garden. The name PETER RABBIT and a small TM mark complete the reverse. On the obverse is the 2020 date beside the Queen, as portrayed by Jody Clark. Like the 2019 coin, it was not struck for general circulation. The cupro-nickel version was sold in Royal Mint brilliant uncirculated packs and in trade packaging, and precious metal versions in silver and gold were produced as well. The coin rounded off five years of Peter Rabbit 50ps that began in 2016 with a close-up of his face.
