Star Trek first reached television in September 1966, and in 2026 The Royal Mint marked the franchise's 60th anniversary with a pair of 50p coins, the first time Star Trek had appeared on a UK 50p. This coin was the opening release, on sale from 3 September 2026. The Royal Mint credits the design to Paramount. Its reverse is built around the Vulcan salute: a raised hand with the fingers parted in a V between the middle and ring fingers. Beside the hand, STAR TREK sits above a large anniversary number sixty, with the Vulcan phrase LIVE LONG & PROSPER running in three lines below. Colour-printed editions add swirling nebulas in blue and purple, and the design was also struck as silver and gold proofs. The obverse carries Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III. A second coin, showing four starships, was announced at the same time for November 2026, and the two designs were also offered together as a brilliant uncirculated two-coin set.
